In preparation for a retreat in Newfoundland during the summer of 2017, Mario and I decided to bring hundreds of laser-cut mat and binder’s boards, some thin, some thick and some thicker, along with our usual art-making supplies. Each day we embellished an abundance of those surfaces, passing them back and forth, our inventory grew. At the end of our three week stay, we tucked the triangles, diamonds, squares, and rectangles away and returned to our respective homes. Off and on throughout the Pandemic, we pulled them out, sorted them, grouped and re-grouped them, admired them, and put them away.

Inventory is an embodiment of the joyous moments that we built together using gouache, pencil and collage. We expanded this visual catalog by recounting a well-spring of universal delights: gems, fruit, flowers, trees, birds, spices and more. In doing so, Inventory became a self-contained reminder of beauty, bounty, and solace.

There are fourteen copies in the edition, which were bound by Christine Wolf, Atelier L’alouette, Portland, Oregon.
